On Patronage

So, sorry to disappoint, this isn’t a new piece. There’s plenty plugging up the pipeline, but I’ve been catching my breath this last week…

Anyway, following a conversation with some other women on twitter this morning, and various thinkings about how to sustain myself while I continue to do the work I’m doing, I’ve decided to set up a Patreon. If you’d like to support my writing, my battling on the twits, or any of the future projects I have in mind (which I point in the general direction of on the page over there), I’d be extremely grateful.

My page is here.

  1. Dear Jane,

I am writing to applaud your choice. You are so clearly a public intellectual. I just was alerted to you a few weeks ago and I have been devouring every post since. Your contribution is immense. I am also a writer and blogger and an academically trained intellectual who is fully outside the academic world. (You can find my work at http: thefearlessheart.org)

I also want to say that i don’t believe in rewards. I don’t want people to support me or you or anyone for some reward. I want to support you because I want to support you. And that’s an intrinsic reward that is the most satisfying: to know that I am contributing to something that is furthering the possibility of a world I would want to live in.

I love what you do. Please keep doing it. May many people support you now and for whatever future we still have.

    With love and respect,

    Miki

    1. Thank you. I think you’re right about the rewards thing as well. And I really appreciate your words, this is all new to me, and it feels a little odd, but people have responded so positively already – I’m really moved.
